What does a Interior Designer Do?
Concept Development & Design
An Interior Designer develops concepts that respond to client preferences, project objectives, and the intended use of a space. They establish design direction through mood boards, palettes, sketches, and presentations.
Space Planning & Layout
Interior Designers develop layouts that optimize circulation, functionality, furniture placement, and user experience. They balance spatial requirements with the architectural characteristics of the project.
Materials, Finishes & Furnishings
They select materials, finishes, furniture, fixtures, lighting elements, and decorative components that support the overall design concept. Selections must also consider performance, availability, budget, and project requirements.
Client & Project Coordination

Education
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related discipline is typically preferred.
Certifications
NCIDQ certification can strengthen a candidate's qualifications, particularly for positions involving commercial and professional interior design.
