What does a Plant Manager Do?
Lead Plant Operations
The Plant Manager oversees daily manufacturing operations and ensures production activities align with facility objectives, quality requirements, and operational priorities.
Manage Production Performance
Monitors production output, capacity, staffing, schedules, and operational performance to maintain efficient and reliable manufacturing operations.
Maintain Quality & Compliance
Works with quality teams to ensure plant activities follow applicable GMP requirements, safety standards, operating procedures, and regulatory expectations.
Oversee Engineering & Maintenance
Furthermore, coordinates with engineering and maintenance teams to support equipment reliability, facility performance, preventive maintenance, and operational continuity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead overall pharmaceutical manufacturing plant operations, including production, workforce performance, quality, safety, engineering, and maintenance.
- Establish and monitor plant performance objectives related to productivity, quality, safety, cost, capacity, and delivery.
- Ensure manufacturing activities comply with applicable GMP requirements, safety standards, company procedures, and regulatory expectations.
- Collaborate with quality assurance, quality control, engineering, maintenance, supply chain, finance, and executive leadership to resolve operational challenges.
- Lead continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives designed to improve efficiency, reliability, quality, workforce performance, and overall plant results.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience
10-15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, plant operations, manufacturing management, production leadership, or a related discipline, preferably within a regulated manufacturing environment.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Life Sciences, or a related discipline preferred.
Certifications
Lean Six Sigma, GMP, PMP, operational excellence, or other relevant manufacturing and leadership certifications can be beneficial depending on employer requirements.
