What does a Materials Engineer Do?
Evaluate Aerospace Materials
The Materials Engineer evaluates metals, composites, polymers, coatings, and other materials for use in aerospace products and manufacturing processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate and select materials for aerospace products and manufacturing applications based on performance, quality, durability, and manufacturing requirements.
- Develop, review, and maintain material specifications, processes, standards, and qualification requirements.
- Support material testing, characterization, qualification, failure analysis, and investigation of material-related manufacturing issues.
- Collaborate with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, production, and suppliers to resolve material and process challenges.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance material performance, product reliability, manufacturability, quality, and cost effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience
5-10+ years of experience in materials engineering, aerospace manufacturing, materials science, metallurgy, composites, or a related discipline, preferably within aerospace or other advanced manufacturing environments.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
Certifications
Relevant materials, quality, Lean Six Sigma, or professional engineering certifications can be beneficial depending on employer requirements.
