About the Estimator Role

An Estimator prepares project cost estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil construction work. The role reviews drawings, specifications, bid documents, quantities, site conditions, schedules, and subcontractor requirements to determine the labor, materials, equipment, and other costs required to complete the work. Strong Estimators understand that accurate estimating goes beyond performing quantity takeoffs. They evaluate production assumptions, subcontractor and supplier pricing, equipment requirements, project logistics, schedule constraints, and potential risks that could affect the final cost. They also work closely with project managers, superintendents, engineers, subcontractors, and company leadership to refine estimates and support informed bid decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare detailed estimates and bid proposals for heavy civil construction projects.
