What does a Litigation Associate Do?
Conduct Legal Research
The Litigation Associate researches statutes, regulations, case law, contracts, and other legal authorities to support case strategy and written legal arguments.
Manage Discovery
Assists with document discovery, interrogatories, requests for production, depositions, and other discovery activities throughout litigation.
Draft Legal Documents
Prepares pleadings, motions, briefs, memoranda, correspondence, discovery responses, and other litigation documents.
Support Case Preparation
Furthermore, assists senior attorneys with depositions, witness preparation, hearings, trial materials, legal analysis, and other case-preparation activities.
Support Negotiations
Assists with settlement discussions, mediation, and other dispute-resolution efforts by researching issues, preparing materials, and evaluating relevant case information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct legal research and analysis relating to commercial litigation matters and prepare written work product.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, legal memoranda, discovery materials, correspondence, and other litigation documents.
- Assist with discovery, document review, depositions, witness preparation, hearings, and trial preparation.
- Work closely with partners, senior attorneys, clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other legal professionals throughout litigation matters.
- Manage assigned case responsibilities, deadlines, and deliverables while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience
1-7+ years of experience in commercial litigation, business litigation, civil litigation, or a related practice area, depending on the seniority of the position.
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications
Active admission to the applicable state bar and eligibility to practice as required by the position.
