What does a Purchasing Manager Do?
Manage Material Procurement
Oversees sourcing and purchasing of construction materials, products, equipment, and services required for residential projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead purchasing and procurement activities for residential construction projects.
- Source construction materials, equipment, products, and services while maintaining competitive pricing and appropriate quality standards.
- Negotiate supplier pricing, contracts, payment terms, delivery schedules, and purchasing agreements.
- Monitor purchase orders, material lead times, deliveries, vendor performance, and potential supply chain risks.
- Coordinate with estimating, project management, construction operations, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure materials are available when required.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience
7-15+ years of purchasing, procurement, construction operations, supply chain, or related experience, preferably within residential construction.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent construction purchasing experience may qualify.
Certifications
Relevant credentials in procurement, supply chain management, construction management, or business can be beneficial depending on the employer and project requirements.
