What does a Superintendent Do?
Lead Daily Field Operations
Directs day-to-day residential construction activities and maintains job-site organization, productivity, sequencing, and coordination.
Coordinate Subcontractors & Trades
Manages trade partners and subcontractors, coordinates work sequencing, and addresses conflicts that could affect project progress.
Manage Construction Schedules
Monitors construction milestones and planned activities while identifying schedule risks and coordinating corrective actions.
Maintain Quality & Safety
Monitors workmanship, site conditions, safety practices, and completed work to help ensure compliance with project requirements and standards.
Coordinate Inspections & Completion
Supports inspections, punch-list activities, corrective work, final completion, and project turnover requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead daily field operations for residential construction projects and maintain organized, productive job sites.
- Coordinate subcontractors, trade partners, deliveries, materials, inspections, and construction activities according to project schedules.
- Monitor construction progress, sequencing, workmanship, safety conditions, and compliance with plans and specifications.
- Identify field conflicts, schedule risks, quality deficiencies, and construction issues and coordinate timely resolution.
- Work closely with project managers, assistant superintendents, subcontractors, inspectors, and other stakeholders through project completion and closeout.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience
7-15+ years of residential construction, field supervision, superintendent, or related experience, with demonstrated responsibility for active job-site operations and subcontractor coordination.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Building Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent residential construction and field leadership experience may qualify.
Certifications
OSHA training and relevant construction safety, quality, or project management certifications can be beneficial depending on project and employer requirements.
